We do not have Beekeeping Class 101 in September. LACBA members are volunteering at the Los Angeles County Fair Bee Booth! If you are an LACBA member, this is a great opportunity to share what you’ve learned in bee class with others.

 PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

This class will take place in an apiary, therefore, protective equipment will be required.  If you do not have proper protective equipment you will NOT be able to participate in class and refunds will NOT be issued (all money collected for classes were a donation).

Class Topic: 

  • Get comfortable with handling your bees

  • Hive inspection techniques – what to look for on you first hive inspection after installing your package of bees or nuc of bees.

  • Be prepared for a quiz!  Do you remember what was covered in class last month?

Los Angeles County Beekeepers Association Beekeeping 101:
A Class for Beginning Beekeepers
Hosted by The Valley Hive

Who: Current 2019 Los Angeles County Beekeepers Association Members. The membership is a family/household membership, children under the age of 18 are welcome with accompanying adult member.

What: 8 Classes to guide you during your first year as a beekeeper

Where: Chatsworth, CA: Class topic will determine class location

When: The 2nd Sunday of the Month (See full class schedule )

Time: 9am to Noon (All classes are the same time.)

Requirements: Beginning with the 3rd class (April) BEE SUITS ARE REQUIRED to attend class.

Cost: Suggested donation of $20 per class per household or $100 per household for all 8 classes. The February and March classes are free. You will need to be a current LACBA member to take class.

Parking for Class:  Please park on Topanga Canyon Blvd.  No parking restrictions on Sundays.

Time:  Gates and Check in open @ 8:30am.  Class Starts @ 9am and will run until Noon.

Class Requirements: 

  • You must have a paid 2019 LACBA Membership

  • Bring a notebook and pen/pencil to take notes

  • Seating is limited. If you want a chair you should bring one with you

  • Positive attitude with a willingness to learn!

Price:  This class is free! (Suggested donation of $20 per person per class or $100 for all 8 classes. LACBA is a 501c3, your donation is tax deductible.)

Class Topic:  What to plant in a bee friendly garden. The importance of well-built hive equipment.  How to build/assemble your own Hive Equipment.  The life cycle of the colony and basic bee biology.  How to install a package or nuc of bees into your equipment.

The Los Angeles County Beekeepers Association Beekeeping Class 101 - Class #2 is Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 9:00AM-Noon, at The Valley Hive.

All the information you need in order to attend our Beekeeping Class 101 is posted on our website: /beekeeping-classes-losangeles/. We do not send out notifications of changes in dates, schedule, times, locations. The first two classes will be held at: 10538 Topanga Canyon, Chatsworth, CA. The location for the rest of the classes TBD. You can register at the class.

Beekeeping 101 is the entire session of beekeeping classes: from February through October 2018 (No class in September). We highly suggest you begin in February and continue through all the classes. Although you are welcome to come in the middle of the season of classes, you will have missed out on valuable information.
